The Openwater Diver course teaches you the foundational knowledge and skills you need to dive with a buddy, independent of supervision anywhere in the world, to a maximum of 18 meters (12 meters for Junior divers aged 10 - 14).
Earning your Openwater Diver certification is the beginning of your scuba diving journey. As a certified diver, you will be able to enjoy fabulous dive destinations, meet exciting people and experience unparalleled adventure. Then, as you continue your adventure and gain experience through higher training levels, your opportunities expand.
We are providing this certification through either SDI (Scuba Divers International) or PADI. Both agency certifications are equally valid and recognised worldwide. Please enquire at the centre if you require your training to be through a specific agency.
The Open Water Course is run over two consecutive weekends (unless otherwise stated).
• Weekend One - Theory (Saturday) and Pool Dives (Sunday).
• Weekend Two - 4 Openwater Qualifying Dives at NDAC.
The pool dives are held at the ‘Dive Pit’ at Thornbury Leisure Centre
The theory session and qualifying dives are held at the National Diving & Activity Centre.
Please note: The Open Water Dive sessions at the NDAC will be weather, water temperature and underwater visibility dependent.
If you wish, you can complete the knowledge development portion of the PADI Open Water Diver course online with SDI and PADI
eLearning. However, you will be required to take a formal multi-choice review question paper at a formal classroom session.
