The National Diving & Activity Centre

Phased Reopening Following Covid-19 Outbreak

There will be a phased reopening of the National Diving & Activity Centre from Saturday 31st October.

Initially we'll be open for Scuba Diving Only on Saturdays and Sundays. We will be carefully limiting the numbers on the site and only be allowing divers who have pre-booked their Scuba diving.

The View Cafe Bar, Gas Room and limited Wooden Wigwam accommodation will also be available for scuba diving visitors. Evening meals at the View Cafe Bar must be pre-booked in advance.

Other activities will remain closed at this stage. Sadly FearFest-Evil will not be held this year.

We thank you for all your support.

Entry fee is £40 for entries received before the end of June, £50 for those received after the end of June.

The SaltFree Summer Splash takes place on the 9th September 2006 at the National Diving and Activity Centre in Chepstow.

Freedivers of all abilities are invited to come along and show the world just just how deep they can dive on a single breath.

The SaltFree Summer Splash will be an AIDA Ranked Constant Weight Competition, National with Guests. It is open to SaltFree Regulars, AIDA Course graduates and anyone else who would like to come and show us what they can do. We are awaiting confirmation from the BFA that they will use the results towards UK Team Selection for the World Cup in Egypt in December 2006.

We plan to hold all the dives on Saturday 9th September but for now, you should make sure you are also free on Sunday 10th in case we need to extend the event over two days. A full schedule will be available here after the closing date. You will need to be at the NDAC at 9am on Saturday 9th for the briefing. Location Map>

Alongside the competition, there will be plenty of chance to socialise with other freedivers, exchange hints and techniques, buy and sell second hand gear at our "bring and buy" stall and of course, a party on the Saturday night - watch the SaltFree website for more on that.

How to Enter
Download the entry form here and get it off to Sam Kirby at SaltFree as soon as possible. Entry fee is £40 for entries received before the end of June, £50 for those received after the end of June.

You can pay by cheque, bank deposit or Paypal. For Paypal payments click here>

We are happy to accept "shallows" as well as "depths" on your entry form! The main thing is to have a go. Due to our insurance, no-one may post a depth that is in excess of their National Record. The maximum depth is 72m.

The entry fee covers the costs of running the event and entry to the NDAC on the day of your competition dive. It does not include entry to the NDAC on any other day, which is £7.50 per day for a freediver, payable on arrival. You need to be at least 18 years old to compete.

Entries are open now and close either when the competition is full or on the 9th August, whichever comes first.

Medical
You will need to bring a fit-to-dive medical with you, signed by a physician within the last 12 months. Download the form here>.

What depth should I put?
The water temperature will be about 17C on the surface, colder at depth and visibility about 5m. This may affect the depth you subscribe.

Don't be afraid to choose a shallower depth than you might in a more exotic location. Please put guideline depths on the entry form for now, you will be able to amend this by emailing Sam up to midday BST on Wednesday the 6th September (but not after that, i.e. NOT on the day!).

If over the next couple of months you anticipate the depth on your form being too shallow by 5m or more, please tell Sam as soon as you know. As always, subscribed depths are kept confidential. We have also asked for an approximate dive time on your form, please fill this in for now and make sure you have a fairly accurate estimate of your dive time by the time you come to the competition.

Prizes
There will be some prizes but we are keeping it simple. The top three men and women will receive a specially commissioned trophy designed by Bristol Blue Glass watch the SaltFree website for a photo - they are gorgeous!

Training Days
As ever, SaltFree will be training at the NDAC throughout the summer, come along to any of our regular meets to train. Dates are on the SaltFree home page. Email Sam with which ones you would like to come to and what depths you would like to try.

We will aim to accommodate everyone who wants to come and train the weekend before, 2nd and 3rd September, but places are limited. Please indicate on your entry form if you would like to come and we will book it up on a first come, first served basis.

Costs for the training day are £7.50 to get into NDAC per day, and £5 per day to SaltFree, payable on the day.

Where's the party?
Saturday night will be party night with a barbecue and beer at the NDAC or dinner in a nearby pub if the weather ain't so good. Watch the SaltFree website for more details. Friends, family, pets all welcome.

Media Enquiries
Please come! Email Sam at sam@saltfreedivers.com for a pass and more information.
