| We
have recently placed 100 rudd fish into the water at the National
Diving & Activity Centre to help develop the ecology and
wildlife.
Rudd tend to be quite silvery/white in
appearance with greeny/blue-brown backs when they are small.
As they mature their flanks take on a beautiful bronze/golden
colour and their fins turn a bright scarlet red.
The mouth is distinctive with a steeply
angled protruding lower lip and the eyes have yellow to orange
irises. Another identifying feature in the rudd is that the
beginning of its dorsal fin is set well behind the front of
the pelvis fins.
Plans are afoot to bring in some more
fish over the coming weeks, so next time you are looking at
the underwater attractions you may be surprised too see a
few more creatures passing you by.
We're pretty sure that within a week
or so the fish will get along swimmingly with you divers! |
