Down, Down, Deeper & Down - The Saltfree Double Dip 2009

Double Dip winners 2009Rain, rumbling thunder and the odd flash of lightning set the scene for the Saltfree Double Dip, this year’s UK Freediving National Depth Championships.

Taking place at the National Diving and Activity Centre in Chepstow, this was the fifth national competition organised by Sam Kirby of Saltfree Divers, and one of the largest UK competitions ever.

Double Dip ResultsRun over two days on the 18th and 19th July 2009, 18 athletes competed for trophies and AIDA Rankings in the three competitive freedive disciplines – Constant Weight, Constant Weight without Fins and Free Immersion.

About a dozen of the entrants train regularly with Saltfree, the others came from as far afield as Norway, France and Australia (well, not quite, he was living in London).

The competition was truly an eclectic mix with five women amongst the leading divers, and athletes from six different countries (7 if you include Cornwall!).

New fish at inland diving centre

NDAC take on more stock of Brown and Rainbow Trout

We have just taken stock of another batch of Brown and Rainbow Fish from Bibury Trout farm in Gloucestershire.

This time they are somewhat bigger than last year's batch, these monsters are weighing in at around 7 - 12lb each - and you thought the Pike were big!

Our new fish are settling into their new surroundings very well and seem to like the divers for some reason, so why don’t you pop down for a visit soon?

Construction Starts on new entrance

Construction Starts on new entrance

As you may know, detailed planning permission was granted in November 2008 for a cafe bar, and the modular buildings that will form the cafe bar have now been installed. more>

Part of the conditions before these buildings can be used, is for a new site entrance to be built.

Detailed technical approval was issued in June and contractors are now busy preparing the site to ensure the new entrance is constructed as quickly and safely as possible.

We will not be carrying out any ground works over our busy weekend periods to avoid disruption to our visitors.

The new entrance should take 12-16 weeks to complete and will make accessing the site much easier.
