Three New Attractions Installed at NDAC

Two Wessex helicopters sourced from the Royal Navy arrived at the National Diving & Activity Centre on Wednesday 7 Nov. Also if you've been to the site recently you can't of missed the 68 foot long, 30 foot high, 14 tonne BAE 146 Aircraft!

During the weeks following their arrival a great deal of work was carried out, completely stripping out the aircraft to make them diver friendly.

We are extremely pleased to announce that on Monday 17th December the new attractions were carefully lowered into the water by a 100 tonne crane. Helping us with the installation were Avon & Sommerset, Thames Valley and South WalesæPolice Specialist Underwater & Search teams, along with representatives from the Army, Navy and RAF.ææKeeping a close eye on things were diving inspectors from theæHSE and Local Authority Enviromental Health Offiecrs from The Forest of Dean - we even have the local paper turning up to cover the story!

The BAE Aircraft has been placed just West of the small 2 man diving bell at a depth of approximatelyæ25m. One of the Wessex hellicopters has been placed NE of the Devon Aircraft at 25m and the other one between the troop carrier and the cruiser at around the 13m mark.

Why not pop down for a visit and be one of the first to dive these fabulous attractions.æ They are all marked off with big white marker buoys so you can't miss them . . . unless your navigation skills need a little brushing up!

FREEHOLD ACQUISITION OF SITE, NEW SITE ENTRANCE  & IMPROVED ROAD TO PONTOONS

After 34 months of hard work, blood, sweat and tears, we have finally doneæit.æ Darren & Kaye have secured and purchased the freehold interestæof the 55 acre site at Tidenham Quarry, home of the National Divingæ& Activity Centre.æ

This is great news for us all, because now we can start work on two construction projects that have been in the pipeline for sometime.

The first major project is a new and improved entrance to the NDAC site. Since obtaining full detailed planning permisssion from the Forest of Dean District Council; detailed technical approval has commencedæbetween our contractors and Gloucestershire County Council Highways Department. Together they are working towards an improved new site entrance design.æ The build time for these detailed works will take around 48 weeks from start to finish, and they are expected to start in January 2008.æ

The second construction project is to improve the bumpy road to the turning circle by the pontoons. As regular customers, who have been bounced down it, are aware, the road to the turning circle has been in a state of disrepair for some time now.

We would like to thank all our loyal customers and members who have put up with the off-road journey to the pontoon - but are very pleased to announce that this will soon be coming to an end. Improvement works will commence on the road mid January 2008 and it is anticipated that they will take around 7 - 10 days to complete (weather depending).
