Planning Success for the
National Diving & Activity Centre

The National Diving & Activity Centre will be the jewel in the crown for the Forest of Dean after being given the green light from The Forest of Dean District Council (FODDC) Planning Committee to develop the site.

plans

After 27 months of blood, sweat and tears planning permission has been awarded to turn the centre into one of the UK's finest diving and activity centre's.

This will put us firmly on the UK and European map as a destination to visit.  We are now in a very fortunate position and have support from Parish, District and County Council Members.

Some architects plans and details for the new centre can be viewed online here. Watch the website and e-shotlines for future updates, plans and images of the shape of things to come.

We would like to say a big thank you to all of you who over the past two years who have supported us by visiting the site and giving us the encouragement to push on.  We would also like to thank all those who took the trouble to write a letter of support for the site development.

Rare Breed of Duck Lands at NDAC site

A rare breed of yellow duck was spotted next to the freediving platform on Sunday 19th November 2006.

It is believed that the bird was part of a flock on a 14 year migratory route from China, via the North Pacific, Alaska, Japan and North America; traveling over 21,000 miles so far.

A few of the birds have broken away from the main flock of 29,000 and have headed to Europe. Research suggests that this maybe the first UK sighting of its kind.

It is hoped that some more of the flock will populate the quarry during Easter 2007.

Please watch our website and e-shotlines for further updates.

Gas Room Improvements

The gas room has now been up and running for just over a year, which has given us time to use the gas mixing panel for several thousand fills and make some improvements.

The following improvements have been made with consultation from the HSE

  • Safety lines have been added to all whips; in case of hose rupture the line will stay fixed to the wall rather than flailing around.

  • NEW state of the art Trimix/ Nitrox mixing panel.

  • All non-stop valves have been replaced with needle valves reducing the risk of explosion when filling Nitrox/ Trimix.

  • Non-return valves have been added to the air charging lines to stop back contamination from customer’s cylinders protecting our gas blenders and customers.

  • The helium/oxygen analyser is now completely separate from the panel, safely speeding up gas fills and also possible contamination from customer’s cylinders.

We will continue to make improvements as and when required to improve the safety to our gas blenders and customers.

For details of our gas prices please visit the gas room page on our website. more>
