Saturday 5th December 2015, at the
National Diving & Activity Centre (NDAC), Chepstow
Scuba Santas will be entering its 9th year in 2015 and continues going from strength to strength. Often quoted as the “best dive of the year”, the event has raised thousands of pounds the RNLI and DDRC Healthcare whilst breaking its own world record several times over in the process.
Each year, around Christmas time, we dress up in Santa costumes and go diving for fun and to raise money for charity. The money that we raise is shared between two great charities who provide a lot of support to divers – the RNLI and DDRC Healthcare (previously called the Diving Diseases Research Centre).
For the past few years the event has been held at the National Diving & Activity Centre (NDAC) near Chepstow, providing an easily accessible location for divers to get together for some festive diving fun!
‘Scuba Santas’ was founded by a group from Yorkshire Divers and was organised for many years by Lloyd Watkin. In 2013 & 2014 DDRC Healthcare, the diver health charity which answers all calls to the National Diver Accident Helpline, came on board to support Lloyd as ‘Scuba Santas Little Helpers!’. This year the event is being arranged by the National Diving & Activity Centre.
JOIN US this year for the 9th Annual Scuba Santas event on SATURDAY 5th DECEMBER 2015 at the NDAC.
This year Scuba Santas are aiming to attract between 100 and 200 Scuba Santas, and to raise well over £2,000 for our two charities.
In 2009 we set the World Record for ‘Most Scuba Diving Santas’ with 158 fabulous Scuba Santas. in 2013 Vobster Santas had 175, so the gauntlet has been laid down… are you up for the challenge this year?
Over £20,000 raised for Charity so far…
In 2007 we raised a few hundred pounds for the RNLI with 8 participating Santas, a Viking, a snowman, and a fairy! By the 2012 event we passed the amazing milestone of £20,000 and we have motivated people to start similar events all over the world since.
Not only is this a great advert for British scuba diving, it provides much needed funds for two great charities, and despite the chilly temperatures helps to get some grumpy people smiling and feeling festive!
Scuba Santas have some fantastic sponsors every year who donate some amazing prizes for our prize draw, helping to raise more money for our chosen charities. We also raise money through sponsorship of the event and sponsorship for individual Scuba Santa participants. Please support us and give generously! 50% of money donated goes to the RNLI and 50% to DDRC Healthcare.
If you want to join this fantastic event, sponsor Scuba Santa, donate a prize or just wish the Scuba Santas well, please do not hesitate to get in touch with Scuba Santas or follow them on their various social media sites. HO HO HO!!!
Scuba Santas can be found all over the internet, so if you’d like to find out more information please check us out via one of the following methods:
Why not book a Wooden Wigwam, make a full weekend of it and go glamping in style. The wigwams are likely to get booked up quickly with this busy weekend, so book your wigwam early to avoid disappointment.
Deptherapy, a UK registered charity that uses scuba diving to rehabilitate seriously injured service men and women, will be holding its inaugural Navigational Challenge at the NDAC this June.
The Deptherapy Nav Challenge, tests scuba divers of all qualifications and walks of life, encouraging them to participate in our navigational challenge, where divers will navigate to a series of waypoints and complete several challenges set over the course. The navigational course and challenges are designed to make divers aware of good diving practice and skills, as well as build up an awareness of the difficulties disabled divers face.
Divers can enter in teams of 6 or buddy-pairs – those that enter as a team will do the course in a relay form and each buddy pair’s time in completing the course will be added together. The aim is to complete the Nav course and its challenges in the lowest time and the team and buddy-pair with the lowest times for completing the Nav course will win prizes.
The Deptherapy Nav Challenge is a fun and exciting way to encourage divers of all qualification levels and dive agencies to pit their skills against the Deptherapy team and try to beat their time over the course. Come and join us on the 13th & 14th June 2015 from 10am – 4:30pm on both days at the NDAC, Chepstow and see if you have what it takes!
